Private Conversations

The confessional before you is ornate and well maintained, ebony colored wood embellished with the visage of two angels. A jet black curtain separates the confessional from the rest of the Church, offering a surprising degree of privacy to any eavesdroppers nearby. Unlike the rest of Krakow, the inside is dimly lit by a small light bulb securely attached to the ceiling which emits a faint red light. While the atmosphere isn't exactly cozy, it is private.

A smooth voice calls out to you once you've sat down, familiar enough to identify the speaker despite the partition between you.

"Welcome welcome. I take it something is on your mind?"

We're in a museum now, Harry.

So far I have yet to have to clean up the remnants of poorly thought out science experiments, so considerably better than much of last week.

I have a few questions for you, as usual. I'll start with one I'm fairly sure I already know the answer to, but I would like confirmation on it: is it possible for either of you to alter what power we were given?

I'm not asking because I wish to change mine, [although that would be nice!!!!] I'm asking simply to eliminate it as a possibility during those... trials.

[Now that so many powers are known, he wants to make sure no one's going to trip him up at the last second by swapping powers somehow. It seems exceptionally unlikely, but hey, might as well rule it out entirely.]

...doubtful, but not impossible. The risk of failure would be fairly high and even it if succeeded, it's likely the individual would be changed in, ah, other ways. [ Not a bad question to ask! ]

For my question: you have had a chance to peruse the science museum have you not? Tell me your opinion of it.

I have, yes. I find the entire concept both incredibly morbid and very charming. Displaying information and visuals so easily makes it simple to understand, and there's so much available to study... I'm very pleased it has become available to us; I could spend weeks there and never grow bored.

The aquarium portion is not quite as interesting to me personally, though I find that fascinating as well. Shame about the murder; hopefully all of that is cleaned up.

I imagine that it's also impossible for any of us to have two sets of powers, is that correct? Would it be possible for someone to gain a second ability, or is that also "doubtful, but not impossible"?

[That's not sarcasm; he genuinely does want to rule these out as possibilities. Or you know, make use of them if they are possibilities that don't end in him turning into a lizard.]

It has been, my weekend consists of such duties. Cleaning up a murder is something more interesting than spilled soup, though I have experience in both.

It would be impossible for someone to have two sets of powers, for instances Klados and Sanguis. To your second question, are you assuming an evolution to your power like Illusio being able to make the illusion as passable as the real entity or something else entirely?

Also, this questions of two questions. [ So he will ask two in return, just to be clear. ]

My second question was more of a clarification of the first - essentially, would it be possible to gain Sanguis if one already has Klados. It sounds as though the answer would be the same, however - that it's strictly impossible to possess two powers.

But now that you've brought it up, I am very curious about that. Would such a thing be possible? Gaining a stronger version of a power would be incredibly interesting.

And yes, feel free to ask me two questions in return.

That is correct, possessing two sets of powers is impossible.

...with due time, I imagine you would be able to improve on your power in some form. But I'm afraid that's nothing more than mere speculation, the physiology and characteristics of each one of you varies wildly.

My two questions then:

What kind of relationship do you perceive the Lady and I to have?

And who do you consider to be the most valuable asset among you?

[Interesting, but not exactly surprising. We're a wildly different group of people, after all. Some powers may play better with certain people than others as well.]

For your first question... Both of you have something the other needs or wants. I wouldn't go so far as to call you friends, but the two of you are friendly enough and work well together. You're allies, but only for as long as the other remains useful.

[Admittedly, he hasn't spoken to the Lady as much, so he could be totally off there, but that makes the most sense to him.]

And for the second... Well, it depends on how we're defining "valuable", isn't it? It also depends on who we're talking about valuable for - the person you'd find the most valuable among us would certainly differ from who I would find valuable.

Personally, I would find Rean to be one of the most valuable among us. He gathers everyone together to discuss the state of things, he endeavors to check on everyone to see that they're doing well, and he even provides food for those who can't cook. He's level-headed and careful, and never jumps to conclusions during the trials. He's trustworthy as well; no one questioned him when he confirmed what Pizza's power was.

[A safe answer, certainly, but a well-thought-out one.]

[ So that may have been a trick question, because from the sound of it those people are off the mark. But he's not about to correct them either. ]

Of course, definitions are important. But how you've defined it suits my needs just fine. I had a feeling Rean would prove to be as much, yet when I asked someone else that question they named different people entirely.

So who did they name? I understand if you want to keep who it was a secret, but now I'm curious.

Ah, I can see where they would pick Erik; he isn't afraid of being completely crazy in search of answers, though I'm a bit surprised he hasn't gotten himself killed yet.

Teru Mikami is rigid, but that makes him all the more curious—few individuals can hold themselves to that level of pressure without breaking.

It's admirable, yes. I feel as though he'll reach his breaking point soon, though. When he does... Well, I really would like to see just what happens. I imagine it will be quite a mess.

Hoh, this one won't be free. But very well. I had thought that you would be far more shallow than you actually are. I have dealt with many, many humans throughout my life some of which have aspirations for power and dreams of grandiosity. By now it's fairly boring and trite, like reading a script you have memorized by heart.

Put another way: I have no qualms about someone like Cumore who acts in a way most others would find repentant. On the other hand, my actual interest in him is rather small. I originally thought you two would be more similar, but I have been pleasantly surprised so far.

Cumore is interesting in his own way, but I understand what you're getting at. There are plenty of people just like him. I'm pleased that you don't find me nearly as boring.

You're a fascinating individual, but I really haven't learned as much about you as I'd like. You're very intelligent and patient - you have to be, considering you're putting up with all of us - but there's so much more to you than meets the eye. I would like to learn all about you eventually, but I know some things are always going to remain your secrets.

I shall tell you what I have told others who have asked: call it chance, call it fate, but simply put she was in need of assistance and happened to come across me. Another offered the term "blind date" and I suppose that is accurate in the sense of happenstance, if not the romantic angle.

I don't have much interest in those matters.

I can't say I'm surprised, you don't really seem like the sort who is all that interested in romance.

What do you think of the hint and penalty the Lady has offered to you?

Personally, I find them incredibly entertaining. Oh, I'm sure you've had people tell you it's dreadful for her to hold onto evidence and put people in a position where they feel they must take her offer and sacrifice themselves for the greater good... but really, it's just fun to watch them trip over themselves to see who will take the offer. I'm hoping Mikami does at some point, just because I want to see what happens to him.

Is that also part of the Lady's experiments, or is it something she does for fun?

He isn't much worse for the wear in the end. I imagine having your appearance changed is discomforting for many, but considering his history, he is more well suited for it than others. And he was able to keep his mind as well.
